Mumbai: Amid huge speculations, producer Boney Kapoor has confirmed a sequel to the iconic 1987 film 'Mr India'. The cult classic featured his late wife and superstar Sridevi opposite brother Anil Kapoor.
In a recent interview to a leading daily, Boney said that he plans to do a reboot first and then go for making its franchise. Although, the filmmaker hasn't decided the timeline yet he intends to work on it soon.
Boney also said that he has a basic concept about the reboot in his mind. He wants to make it more contemporary.
Boney further spoke about how 'Mr India' was a turning point in Sridevi's career. He said that it changed the audience's perspective towards her. While earlier she was considered a glamorous star, the iconic film introduced her as a powerful actress.
The 'Wanted' producer also said that after Sridevi's demise he has even more reason to make the film. He also said that if anyone from the original line-up wants to join the project, they are free to come forward.
Earlier in the month, Anil sparked rumours of 'Mr India' sequel after sharing a picture of his meeting with filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.
On Tuesday, Anil dedicated the 32nd anniversary of 'Mr India' to Veeru Devgan, the stunt director for the iconic film who passed away on Monday.
The actor posted a collage of stills from the film on Twitter, with a heartfelt note.
'Mr India' was a superhero film directed by Shekhar Kapur and produced by Boney Kapoor. Apart from Sridevi and Ani, the movie also starred late legendary actor Amrish Puri who played Mogambo, which is considered one of the best villains in Bollywood till date.
