Mumbai: Divya Dutta and Swara Bhasker are roped in for a same-sex love story 'Sheer Khurma' directed by Faraz Arif Ansari. The film aims to break the taboos around homosexuality.

After bringing Indian cinema its first silent LGBTQ love story, 'Sisak', in the format of a short film, Faraz is now gearing up to bring the sensitive subject on the silver screen with 'Sheer Khurma'.

Faraz has trusted versatile actor Divya Dutta and unapologetic Swara Bhasker to pull off the lead roles.

According to a tabloid report, Divya, who has previously collaborated with Ansari said that she has complete faith in the director.

"I have worked with him previously and I know what he has to offer," said Dutta to the tabloid.

The trust is apparently mutual since Faraz had written the story keeping Divya in mind. He also said that since Swara and Divya both are vocal about the rights of LGBTQIA+ community it was easy for him to approach the two.

Swara and Divya will be joined by veteran actor Surekha Sikri in the film.

Besides homosexuality, 'Sheer Khurma' will also touch upon the inner conflicts of a curious woman who is trying to navigate through strong and inevitable feelings of belonging, identity and acceptance.

On a related note, the conversation and representation of the LGBTQ community have become more prominent in the mainstream media and entertainment space over the years.

Films like 'Aligarh', 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga', 'Dear Dad' took on the subject of same-sex love head-on.

Ayushmann Khurrana too has been roped in for a gay love story 'Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan', and he has said it will be an "out and out entertaining film" which will handle the subject of homosexuality sensitively.

The tone of Hindi cinema is surely changing for good.
