Bollywood stars bid adieu as cricket star Yuvi retires

Celebrities, fans and well-wishers shower appreciations on former cricketer.

Mumbai: The cricket sensation Yuvraj Singh retired from the Indian cricket team on Monday leaving cricket fanatics heartbroken.

The members of the film fraternity on Monday lauded Yuvraj Singh's extraordinary career as the cricketer announced his retirement.

While announcing his decision, Yuvraj said that he wished to provide support to the cancer patients and through 'YouWeCan' foundation he can finally assist them in difficult times.

Talking about the challenges he said: "I have failed more times than I have succeeded but I never gave up and will never give up till my last breath, and that’s what cricket taught me. I gave my blood and sweat to the game, once I got into it, especially when it came to represent my country."

Extending best wishes to the former cricketer, a host of Bollywood actors took to their social media to convey a heartfelt message to the one and only Yuvi.

Applauding the cricketer for his strength and courage, veteran actor Anupam Kher tweeted: "Dearest @YUVSTRONG12!!! You have inspired millions of Indians all over the world not only as a great cricketer but also as a person whose attitude towards life has been that of a complete WINNER. People like you don’t retire. We will always applaud your strength & courage."

Calling Yuvvraj a 'warrior' and an 'inspiration', actor Anushka Sharma wrote: "Thank you for the memories @YUVSTRONG12 . You've been a warrior and inspiration to so many. I wish you the best in the next inning of your life."

Talking about the highs and lows of his favourite cricketer, Angad Bedi shared a series of inspirational post on Twitter. Neha Dhupia, Huma Qureshi, Varun Dhawan and Suniel Shetty also wrote a note to the 'ambassador' of Indian cricket.

Calling Yuvraj's decision 'heartbreaking', actor Raveena Tandon wrote on Twitter: "Dear @YUVSTRONG12. A heartbreaking brave decision.entertained us with ur brilliant innings always. Made India proud, true son of the soil, won for us,6 sixes, T-20 WC against England is etched in our minds.#YuvrajSinghretires."

A fighter to the core, Yuvraj battled all odds to return to the cricket field.

Remarking on the 2014 T20 World Cup finals Yuvraj said: "This was probably the most difficult time in my cricket career, the 2014 T20 World Cup final against Sri Lanka when I laboured to 11 off 21 balls. It was so shattering that I felt my career was all but over, everyone wrote me off too... But I never stopped believing in myself."

Extending gratitude to his fans and well-wisher, the cricketer said: "To my true fans who have always supported me endlessly, I can’t thank you enough specially when the times were tough."
