Bollywood mourns the demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee

The demise of the former President of India Pranab Mukherjee has left Bollywood in grieving. Taking to social media, scores of celebrities mourned his death and paid tributes to the late political figure on social media.

Mumbai:Former President of India and the Bharat Ratna recipient Pranab Mukherjee breathed his last on Monday at the age of 84. He was admitted at the Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi.

The death news of Mukherjee has unleashed a wave of sorrow in the Bollywood, besides the political arena.

Actor Taapsee Pannu tweeted, "Had the honour of meeting him, watching #Pink in his presence, followed by a very warmly hosted dinner for the entire team. Can never forget the experience, his kind words n gesture that day. You will be missed sir Folded hands #PranabMukherjee."

Paying tribute to the former President, Ritesh Deshmukh wrote, "Deeply Saddened!! A big loss for India. Former President of India Hon Shri #PranabMukherjee Sir will be forever remembered for his work & contribution for the development of India. My deepest condolences to @ABHIJIT_LS ji, the entire family & his millions of followers."

Raveena Tandon took to Twitter and wrote: "Saddened to learn about demise of Former President of India, Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee. Heartfelt condolences and prayers for peace of the departed soul. #PranabMukherjee @CitiznMukherjee Om Shanti."

The Highway actor Randeep Hooda penned: "Respected across ideological and political lines... a true statesman... Bharat Ratna and former President of India... a great loss to the Nation #PranabMukherjee Om Shanti."

Manoj Bajpayee tweeted in Hindi, "Dukhad bahut duhkhad!! Bhagavaan shree pranav mukharjee jee kee aatma ko shaanti de!! ek avirasmaraniy yaatra ka samaapan bahut saare yogadaan jeevit rahenge!!"

Ajay Devgan has expressed grief over the demise of Pranab Mukherjee on Twitter. He tweeted: "India loses a great statesman & respected leader. My condolences to the family. #PranabMukherjee."

Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, too, paid his condolences on the microblogging site. "Deepest condolences to the family of Shri Pranab Mukherjee. RIP," Farhan grieved.

Shilpa Shetty Kundra recalled receiving awards from Pranab Mukherjee. "Extremely saddened to hear of the passing of our former President Shri #PranabMukherjee. It was a moment of great pride for @TheRajKundra and me to have met & received our awards from you. Rest in peace," she wrote.

Pranab Mukherjee was hospitalised for the past 21 days and been critical following brain surgery. The news of his demise was confirmed by his son Abhijit Mukherjee in a tweet.
