Afghan crisis: We were forced to flee Afghanistan 20 yrs ago, says Warina Hussain

The Afghan origin actor Warina Hussain shared that two decades ago her family was forced to flee Afghanistan and watching several families going through the same again makes her heart ache. Warina also spoke about the plight of refugees and expressed concern over future of women in Afghanistan.

Hyderabad: Actor Warina Hussain, who hails from Afghanistan, has said that the current situation in the wartorn country reminds her of traumatic past. The actor has shared that two decades ago her family was forced to flee the country and watching several families going through the same again makes her heart ache.

Warina made her Bollywood debut in Salman Khan produced Loveyatri in 2018. Later, she was seen in the song Munna badnaam in the Salman Khan-starrer Dabangg 3. While speaking to a daily on the current situation in Afghanistan, Warina shared how 20 years ago the war forced her family to flee the country.

"It’s a difficult time for me and my family. It’s eerily similar to 20 years ago. It was because of this war and turmoil that my family was forced to flee Afghanistan, and now, many years later, I see other families losing their homes," she said. The actor said her cherished memory of Kabul will always be of family picnics, food, and a beautiful spring which she doubts will ever be the same again. "The only air one will now breathe will be of suppression," she added.

Warina also spoke about the plight of refugees and said, "I was fortunate that India accepted me and became my home but I’m afraid that isn’t the case for everyone right now. Such a country’s conditions result in emergency immigration, resulting in thousands of refugees and asylum seekers arriving in neighbouring countries, where immediate accommodation may be difficult."

The actor is also concerned about the future of women in Afghanistan as she feels that "females are going back to being just a machine for fertility and the mentalities of the youngsters full of hate and revenge." She also urged United Nations to intervene and said, "It’s the wish and plea of a woman who doesn’t want her fellow Afghan women to be treated as second-class citizens in their own nation."

Meanwhile, Warina has completed her next Bollywood project with Freddy Daruwalla, and earlier this year was spotted in Goa shooting for the supernatural thriller, The incomplete Man.
