Hyderabad: Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut is known for not mincing her words and locking horns with biggies from politics and the film industry. Shedding light upon the status of female actors in the film industry, Kangana has said that the actresses are always 'treated as lesser beings' compared to their male counterparts.

In the latest interview with a leading daily, Kangana has revealed that she was not okay with what industry had to offer her and wanted to carve a niche of her own which was not easy as according to her 15 years back being fair was enough to survive for few years in the showbiz.

"Showbiz has many places to give to many types. The place they wanted to give me, and in general, as an actress, I was not okay with that. I wanted another type of place for me. And above everything, I wanted a lot of respect, as an individual. But actresses, in general, were treated very bad back then; generally, in the film industry, actresses are given very bad treatment. They are constantly treated as lesser beings. So, to have that second citizen-type of treatment meted out to me didn't go down very well with me. I tried to make my own place and that was a big struggle," said Kangana.

The multiple National Award-winning actor also said that she wouldn't have come this far if she had settled for what the industry was giving her.

"For them, beauty was being fair. I was fair enough and I could have made a place for myself for 3-4 years, which anybody with a fair complexion can. So, that was all that they wanted. They were willing to give me that shelf life in return for the fair complexion. But I was not okay with that. My fair complexion is the least of my favourite things," said Kangana.

Meanwhile, earlier on Saturday, the actor has ventured into the web space as a producer with her production house Manikarnika Films. She produces the satirical romantic film Tiku Weds Sheru, to hit an OTT platform.

Kangana's upcoming film Thalaivi has been postponed owing to the COVID outbreak. In the film, Kangana plays the role of the late former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa. She is also shooting for Tejas and Dhaakad.
