Abhinav Bindra biopic starring Anil Kapoor with son Harsh Varrdhan shelved?

After nearly a year of official announcement, the biopic on ace shooter Abhinav Bindra is reportedly being shelved. Heeraz Marfatia directorial would have marked the first onscreen collaboration of Anil Kapoor with his son Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor.

Hyderabad: FilmmakerHeeraz Marfatia who was set out to encapsulate the life of celebrated shooter Abhinav Bindra in a biopic is said to have put the idea of film to rest. According to reports, The Bindra biopic is shelved and the makers have no plans to revive the film which was announced with Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor Kapoor playing the titular role.

The film based on the life of the ace shooter was announced three years back. The casting, however, took long as earlier Rishi Kapoor had been roped in to play the father while Ranbir Kapoor who shares his birth date with Abhinav Bindra, was to play Bindra. Later reports of Varun Dhawan getting into the shoes of Bindra also made the rounds. Ultimately, Anil came onboard to play Abhinav’s father and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor was cast in the role of Abhinav Bindra. Harsh Varrdhan had agreed to star in the Bindra biopic in 2016 and the film was said to go on floors in the last quarter of 2020.

Anil, who was excited to play the father of Olympic gold medallist shooter, and had said that the journey of the sports personality is worth telling on the big screen, has focused his time and energy on another project co-starring his son since the Bindra biopic is put on hold indefinitely, reported a webloid. The father-son duo has been shooting in Rajasthan for the upcoming film Thar which also features Fatima Sana Shaikh.

After his debut with the 2016 no-show Mirzya and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero which failed to please the audience and critics, Harsh Varrdhan is yet to make his mark in the film industry which is home for his family for decades now.
