A Suitable Boy actor arrested: Mira Nair demands her release

The Namesake director Mira Nair has demanded actor Sadaf Jafar release post her arrest in Lucknow. The actor who is a part of A Suitable Boy was held for participating in CAA protest.

Mumbai: Acclaimed filmmaker Mira Nair on Sunday has demanded the release of an actor named Sadaf Jafar who is doing a stint in her upcoming movie A Suitable Boy.

The actor was reportedly arrested for participating in an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest in Lucknow.

The filmmaker took to social media to gain support for the actor and demand an immediate release of the artist.

Nair on Sunday tweeted: "This is our India now - Appalling: our #SuitableBoy actress, Sadaf Jafar, beaten and jailed for peaceful protest in Lucknow! Join me in demanding her release."

According to media reports, Sadaf's niece said that she has been "shifted to Lucknow jail now and was subjected to severe police brutality."

In other news, Mira Nair upcoming film A Suitable Boy is an on-screen adaptation of Vikram Seth's classic novel that goes by the same name.

The entire cast and crew started shooting for the film early on September, this year.

The film stars Tabu, the Dhadak star Ishaan Khatter, Rasika Duggal and newcomer Tanya Maniktala.

Few days back, Ishaan took to social media to announce a wrap on the film's shoot.

He further shared a picture of himself with the entire cast and crew of the film and captioned it as "...and that's a wrap on #asuitableboy. Can't wait for you guys to see it."
