Gurugram: At 40, her children were busy with their schooling and her husband away from home to work. As a result, Ruchi Suri had a lot of spare time on her hands. It was towards the end of 2015 that she gave birth to her third child, “Jewels by Ruchi Suri”. From being a simple housewife, she began to be known as the boss woman she is.
After her first exhibition, her business picked up and clients started reaching out to her from all parts of the world. With no physical store, no website, and no advertisements, Ruchi’s business has been able to flourish only through word of mouth recommendations.
Her business operates solely on Facebook and Instagram. “Perhaps, the most challenging aspect of conducting business on these platforms is the competition that comes along. Since e-commerce provides customers with all sorts of options, they tend to look for cheaper mass-produced alternatives. Due to this reason, growing online takes time.”,
Ruchi says. Because of her promptness, through the years, her clients have become her friends.
However, she manages to jump these obstacles through her personalized services. Since she has a flair for the finer things in life, her brand is truly a reflection of her own taste. Ruchi has no staff to conduct day-to-day operations. She does everything herself, from sourcing to packaging, to photography, to talking to customers. When she started out, she recalls hand-delivering orders to ensure they reach safely!
Being an entrepreneur is anything but easy when you also have a household to look after.
“Financial investment aside, my husband has been my biggest mentor. He has taught me how to form the right connections, how to network. On some days when I lost my patience, he has counseled me and reminded me to not give up”, the mompreneur says.
