Hyderabad: However, it started to address the financial crisis of the U.S. which especially occurred after the crash of the Gold Market on September 24, 1869.

Two Wall Street financiers, Jay Gould and Jim Fisk joined hands to buy the nation's maximum gold and created a situation where the stock markets crashed. Mostly, everyone in the U.S., from Wall Street barons to farmers witnessed bankruptcy. This is related to one of the Fridays that September.

Generally, Black Friday, post-Thanksgiving celebrations is related to shopping where retailers would offer discounts, and supposedly, people will also shop more of discounted merchandise.

Another myth also propelled that back in the 1800s Southern plantation owners could buy slaves at a discount on the day after Thanksgiving. As a result some boycott this retail holiday

The true story behind Black Friday dates back to the 1950s. Police in the city of Philadelphia used the term to describe the chaos that ensued on the day after Thanksgiving when hordes of suburban shoppers and tourists flooded into the city in advance of the big Army-Navy football game held on that Saturday every year. Black Friday was also Proposed to rename Big Friday in Philadelphia to remove the negative connotations and highlight the shopping bonanza.

Sometime in the late 1980s, however, retailers found a way to reinvent Black Friday and turn it into something that reflected positively, rather than negatively, on them and their customers. The result was the “red to black” concept of the holiday. The Black Friday story stuck, and pretty soon the term’s darker roots in Philadelphia were largely forgotten.

Holiday shoppers may be swamped by offers on a wide range of goods as companies offer attractive discounts as Black Friday 2020 nears, the same, however, may not apply to those hoping for the newest next-generation game consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

Microsoft Xbox Series X and Series S consoles are projected to be in short supply until at least April next year. The overwhelming number of pre-orders resulted in a limited supply of consoles available on launch day and even some early buyers will need to wait until after the holidays for their pre-orders to be fulfilled.

"I think we will continue to see supply shortages as we head into the post-holiday quarter," Xbox CFO Tim Stuart said at the Jefferies Interactive Entertainment conference recently.

Meanwhile, GameStop for one is offering up to 50 per cent off certain games for the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Some PS5 launch titles are on sale as well, though they might find a limited audience. Sony is also offering 25 per cent off a 12-month PlayStation Plus membership.

This year Amazon launched its deals a whole month early. Other retailers including Very, Currys PC World, John Lewis, Superdrug, O2, Boots and AO have also started their sales already too.

How to find the best Black Friday 2020 deals?

  • If you're eyeing a bunch of great deals during this year's Black Friday sale, you should start making plans right away.
  • Make sure you keep a list of things you'd like to buy.
  • You should be aware of local pricing so that you can make a smart comparison during the sales.
  • Create an account on the platform where you wish to make purchases, and look around for products that can be shipped to India.
  • On Black Friday 2020, arrive early on the online store of your choice and compare the deal prices with local pricing.
  • Buy the product only if there's a considerable difference in prices. This is important because you'll have to factor in shipping and custom duties as well. If the overall price comes out to be lower than the local pricing, that's a good deal. But if it doesn't, don't go for it.
