Rajasthan: As video of Dalit man being beaten goes viral, two men arrested

A Dalit man was mercilessly thrashed and tortured in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. Two have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Chittorgarh: The police on Friday arrested two people for allegedly beating up a Dalit man at Kojunda village under Gangrar police limits in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh district. The incident happened on June 25.

The arrested persons have been identified as Suresh and Ratan of the same village.

According to sources, the man was beaten up as part of punishment because he had asked for a wire for his house. The police registered a case and formed a Special Investigation Team on Friday, nearly 8 days after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The police claimed that the delay in launching an investigation was because they had not received a complaint or seen the video till then.

In a video that went viral, a man is seen being brutally abused, and tortured by a group of people. Gangarar police inspector Shivraj Gurjar condemned the incident and stated that it is shameful. He has reportedly spoken to the other police officials and has asked for quick and strict action.
