Abha:One person was killed and seven others wounded in an attack by Yemeni rebels on an airport in Saudi Arabia.

A spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition fighting the rebel Houthis in Yemen was quoted in the state-run Saudi Press Agency as saying the airport in Abha, in the south of the kingdom, was struck on Sunday evening.

The official did not say what type of weapon was used in the attack.

The Saudi Press Agency reported that the victim of the attack was a Syrian resident, but did not identify the nationalities of those wounded.

A Houthi spokesman on Sunday said rebels had launched drone attacks on Saudi airports in Abha and Jizan.

Sunday's attack came less that two weeks after a Houthi cruise missile struck the same airport in Abha, wounding 26 passengers inside.

The Iranian-backed Houthis also claimed responsibility for bomb-laden drone strikes that targeted a key Saudi oil pipeline in recent weeks.
