Kerman: The head of Iran's expeditionary Quds Force, who succeeded the slain Gen. Qassem Soleimani, said on Wednesday that Soleimani's followers will "crush the bones of Americans" before expelling them from the region.

Gen. Esmail Ghaani made the comments during a ceremony to commemorate the anniversary of Soleimani's death.

Soleimani was killed by a US missile strike in Baghdad on 3 January last year.

Soleimani's killing marked a major escalation in the standoff between Washington and Tehran, which has careened from one crisis to another since US President Donald Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and imposed crippling sanctions.

Iran has repeatedly vowed to retaliate for his death.
