Taliban refutes reports of Mullah Baradar's death

Baradar in his audio message blamed 'fake propaganda' for the death rumours. Baradar in the news clip said, "There had been news in the media about my death... Over the past few nights, I have been away on trips. Wherever I am at the moment, we are all fine, all my brothers and friends", he added.

New Delhi: Amid reports of the death of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban government in Afghanistan, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in his audio clip that went viral on social media, refuted all such reports in a statement, clarifying that he is alive and doing well .

Confirming the same, Taliban spokesperson Suhail Shaheen in a tweet said, "Mullah Baradar Akhund, Deputy PM, Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in a voice message rejected all those claims that he was injured or killed in a clash. He says those reports are false and baseless".

According to the local news reports, the Taliban Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar today denied reports of his death or injury in an audio message.

Baradar's audio message, tweeted by Taliban spokesperson Mohammad Naeem, followed reports that Baradar was injured or killed in clashes among the Taliban, Afghanistan's TOLO news reported.

In the last few days, reports emerged of Baradar getting injured in an internal conflict in Kabul, while others have reported that he was killed.

Who is Abdul Ghani Baradar?

Born in 1968 in the Weetmak village of Deh Rahwod District in Uruzgan Province of Afghanistan, Baradar is a Durrani Pashtun of the Sadozai tribe which is a sub-tribe of Popalzai.

Baradar is said to have been a close aid of Mullah Omar, alongside whom he founded the Taliban in the 1990s.

Baradar is currently serving as the acting deputy prime minister of the new Afghanistan government formed by the Taliban post their August 15 takeover of the country.

Earlier, he also oversaw the Doha agreement between the Taliban and the United States of America in February 2020 on the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.
