Iran seizes another tanker in Persian Gulf

Tehran: Brushing aside international warnings over tanker seizure, Iran on Sunday seized another foreign vessel for allegedly smuggling fuel from the Persian Gulf.

"The IRGC's naval forces have seized a foreign oil tanker in the Persian Gulf that was smuggling fuel for some Arab countries," media reports quoted Iranian state media.

According to media reports, the IRGC public relations office said in a statement that following consultations with the legal and judicial officials, the force seized the vessel in a surprise attack near the Farsi Island.

The tanker was taken to Bushehr Port and its cargo was turned in to the National Oil Distribution Company of Bushehr province.

The vessel was carrying at least 70,000 liters of oil. Reportedly, seven sailors have also been detained.

Iranian Navy had last month seized a British-flagged tanker Steno Impero vessel and stopped another Liberian-flagged ship in the Strait of the Hormuz over "violating international regulations."

Iranian authorities also stopped another Liberian-flagged ship in the Strait of the Hormuz for "violating international regulations."

The United Kingdom has then termed Iran's action as "dangerous" and "illegal". The US, France and Germany have condemned Iran's actions.

Iranian move of seizing another tanker is taking the Gulf crisis to the next level.
