Hyderabad:Even as a video showing former Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani's brother Hashmat Ghani exchanging pleasantries with Taliban leaders is going viral on social media, the younger Ghani has posted a tweet in what could be seen as tacit support to the Taliban.

In his tweet, Hashmat Ghani, the chief of the Grand Council of Kuchis and chairman of Kabul-based The Ghani Group, said, "While we have to accept Taliban, it should not be used as the only reason to abandon people of Afghanistan by the West. Half of our population are dependent are daily wages. Freezing their money at the time of need could spell disasters, not just in #AFG for the region (sic)."

In another tweet, he said the Taliban are "well capable" of bringing security. However, in the same breath, he went on the say that running a functional government requires the input and collaboration of younger educated Afghans.

On Saturday, a video showing Hashmat Ghani with Taliban leader Khalil-ur-Rehman and religious scholar Mufti Mahmood Zakir had taken Twitter by storm.

Soon after the Taliban's capture of Kabul became imminent, Ashraf Ghani moved out of Afghanistan and later defended his decision to flee. Ghani, who has taken refuge in the UAE, has said he is in talks to return to Afghanistan. Incidentally, Hashmat Ghani has a lucrative business spread across the UAE.
