Halt in fighting suggests Middle East ceasefire deal

Intense fighting over the past two days appeared to have come to a halt early on Monday. Though there is no official ceasefire announcement from either side, but a deal would end the bloodiest fighting which is continuing since 2014.

Gaza City:The intense fighting between Israel and Hamas militants have come to a halt after the Israeli army lifted protective restrictions on residents in southern Israel, while the Hamas militant group's radio station in the Gaza Strip reported a ceasefire.

Though there is no official ceasefire announcement from either side, but a deal would end the bloodiest fighting which is continuing since 2014.

Israeli tanks and armoured personnel carriers could still be seen on the border with Gaza early on Monday.

Over the weekend, fighting was going on after Palestinian militants fired rockets at Israel, to which the Israeli military responded with airstrikes on dozens of targets inside Gaza.

Palestinian medical officials reported 23 deaths, including at least nine militants as well as two pregnant women and two babies.

Four Israelis were killed and dozens of others were wounded.

The terms of the latest deal were unknown, but recent ceasefires have been short-lived.
