WHO warns coronavirus pandemic 'by no means over'

WHO warned people that the pandemic is still evolving and growing in many parts of the world. It urged national leaders to continue their commitment in finding a vaccine.

Geneva:The World Health Organization on Wednesday said the coronavirus pandemic is by no means over as the countries around the world continue to battle against the virus.

The comment came from WHO's Director of the World Health Organization's Health Emergencies Programme Michael J. Ryan who added, "If we look at the numbers over the last number of weeks, this pandemic is still evolving. It is still growing in many parts of the world and we have deep concerns."

Regarding the asymptomatic transmission of the virus WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said research is ongoing, but added that finding, isolating, and testing people with symptoms and tracing and quarantining their contacts is the most critical way to stop transmission.

The Director-General also called on political leaders to continue their commitment and support in finding a vaccine and ensuring access.
