WHO launches COVID-19 mobile apps for health workers, general public

The World Health Organization launched two mobile apps - WHO Academy and WHO Info, that will respectively provide access to knowledge resources to health workers, and the latest information to the general public on the coronavirus pandemic.

Geneva:The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday launched to mobile applications to help in the fight against COVID-19.

The first app, WHO Academy, is designed to support health workers to expand their life-saving skills during the pandemic, while the second app, WHO Info will provide information to the general public.

Through the WHO Academy app, health workers can gain access to COVID-19 knowledge resources, developed by WHO, that include up-to-the-minute guidance, tools, training, and virtual workshops that will help them care for COVID-19 patients and protect themselves, an official release stated.

"With this new mobile app, the WHO is putting the power of learning and knowledge-sharing directly into the hands of health workers everywhere," said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General.

The app was built based on a survey of 20,000 global health workers, a majority of which advocated for virtual learning to prepare themselves for the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the WHO Info which provide millions of people across the globe real-time access to the latest news and developments surrounding COVID-19.

Apart from information on WHO initiatives and the quest for medicines and vaccines, the app will also continuously update the number of coronavirus cases.

Both the applications are available for free download from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
