Zafferana Etnea (Italy): Europe's largest active volcano erupted Saturday, releasing ash and orange lava into the air. The eruption of Italy's Mount Etna lasted for a few hours and occurred at the southwest crater at an altitude of about 1800 metres.
This latest eruption caused dust to rain on nearby towns and across an extensive area. Recently the volcano has been erupting at regular intervals with lava fountains and ash rain lasting a few hours. Etna is the largest of Italy's three active volcanoes.
