UK may release Iranian tanker after sufficient guarantees

UK demanded guarantees that Iranian tanker was not headed for Syria to resolve the situation.

Wyboston: In a major step, the UK has signalled to release Iranian tanker after sufficient guarantees from Tehran.

On Saturday, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said, "If we could receive sufficient guarantees that tanker was not headed for Syria then we would be able to resolve the situation following, of course, due process in the Gibraltar courts."

Earlier On July 4, British Royal Marines have seized a supertanker carrying Iranian oil in Gibraltar over breaching EU sanctions.

On Saturday, Hunt tweeted that he spoke to Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif and conveyed the message that the destination of the oil tanker Grace 1 was a concern, not origin. He also tweeted that Iran wants to resolve the issue.
