Russian troops deal with aftermath of Siberian depot blasts

Achinsk: Armoured vehicles, firefighting aircraft and combat engineers on Saturday were deployed to a military depot in Russia's Siberia region, where massive blasts earlier in the week left one person dead and 13 injured.

The Russian defense ministry said that the Friday's explosions at the ammunition depot near the city of Achinsk in eastern Siberia's Krasnoyarsk region were caused by lightning.

On Monday, the blasts and fire at the depot reportedly damaged the facility's lightning protection system.The residents of the village located closest to the depot were evacuated to a temporary shelter in a nearby village.The head of Russian Emergency Service, Lisin said that Kamenka residents were yet to find out whether it was safe for them to return to their homes.
