Over 400 hot air balloons fly over northeastern France

Chambley: More than 400 hot air balloons on Monday took to the air over Northeast France in the Grand Est Mondial Air Ballons festival at the aerodrome in Chambley-Hageville.

The festival started last Friday and will carry on for a total of ten days. The public can take flight for about an hour for 200 – 250 euros (222 – 278 US dollars). They can also win contests for a free ascent.

The festival is in its 30th year and is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors.

More than 500 hot air balloons are participating, making this the largest balloon festival in the world.

Balloonists from 50 different countries are involved in this gathering, which takes place every two years.

The festival holds the world record for the most balloons in the air at the same time in less than an hour – 456 – achieved two years ago.

It has not yet surpassed it this year.
