NZ PM calls for ending online extremism

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has given a call to eliminate acts of violent extremism from being shown online. They call will have nomenclature 'Christchurch call' named after the New Zealand city where 51 people were gunned down inside a mosque on March 15.

Paris:New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been discussing her call to eliminate acts of violent extremism from being shown online at the 'Voices for Action' gathering in Paris.

The meeting which took place at the headquarters of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development came a day before Ardern and the French president move to make a joint push to end online extremism.

They will launch the 'Christchurch call' - named after the New Zealand city where 51 people were killed in a March 15 attack on mosques in Paris on Wednesday.

Leaders of Britain, Canada, Ireland, the European Union, Senegal, Indonesia and Jordan will attend the meeting along with representatives of Twitter, Microsoft, Google, Facebook and other internet companies.

The gunman in Christchurch live streamed the attack on Facebook.
