Macron opens 60th anniversary meeting of OECD

Marking the 60th anniversary of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron encouraged world leaders to share resources and knowledge. He also emphasized that the Covid crisis has revealed the industrial, commercial, financial interdependence of global economies.

Paris:French President Emmanuel Macron opened a partly virtual event marking the 60th anniversary of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in Paris on Monday.

In his opening remarks, dominated by the pandemic, the French leader said that the current crisis has "highlighted numerous loopholes in our collective preparation."

Macron also took this opportunity to call for a "fairer tax system" on the revenues of internet giants like Google, Amazon and Facebook.

"It cannot continue on an international level. It is more and more unacceptable for our fellow citizens," Macron said.

The event is co-hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria.
