Brussels: In a clear warning to London over no-deal Brexit, the European Union on Monday said that an exit without a withdrawal agreement would cause significant disruption for UK citizens and businesses.

EU Commission deputy chief spokesperson Natasha Bertaud said, "From our side in a no-deal scenario what that means is that all EU primary and secondary law will cease to apply to the UK from that moment onwards and there would be no transition period as would have been provided for in the withdrawal agreement."

Citing EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Bertaud said that "if it comes to a hard Brexit and this is in no one's interest, it is the British that will unfortunately be the big losers."

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Monday dismissed the notion of recalling Parliament from its summer break after leaked government documents warned of widespread shortages and border delays in the event of a "no-deal" Brexit.

The Sunday Times newspaper published the expectations of what the British government would face if the country leaves the European Union without a withdrawal agreement.

Among the most serious; disruptions to the supply of medicines, a decrease in fresh food availability and potential freshwater shortages due to possible interruptions in the importation of water treatment chemicals.
