Voting for Israel general election begins

The voting for Israel general elections has begun on Tuesday. Israel has 6.3 million registered voters and 47 parties are locking horn for the 120 seat Knesset in the general elections.

Jerusalem:The voting for the most closely fought general elections has begun in Israel on Tuesday, the result of which will decide the fate of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who is seeking a fifth term.

If the right-wing Likud party leader Netanyahu wins the poll, then he will make it to the Prime Minister's office for the fourth time consecutively. Earlier, he also led the country from 1996 to 1999.

Benny Gantz, head of the centrist Blue and White alliance is challenging Netanyahu who is facing corruption charges, on the key issue of security and is promising cleaner politics.

The results will start coming in at 22:00 local time (19:00 GMT) on Tuesday.
