Jakarta:Human remains were recovered by Indonesian search and rescue personnel on Monday from the waters off of Java Island where Sriwijaya Air jet crashed on Saturday.
The search for the black boxes of a crashed Sriwijaya Air jet intensified on Monday to boost the investigation into what caused the plane carrying 62 people to nosedive at high velocity into the Java Sea.
The Boeing 737-500 jet disappeared minutes after taking off from Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, during heavy rain on Saturday, and the search so far has yielded plane parts and human remains but no sign of survivors.
Head of Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee Soerjanto Tjahjono said on Monday that the crashed Sriwijaya Airplane might have broken apart when hitting waters.

"The plane was possibly ruptured when it hit the waters. This indicates that the plane remained intact in the air and it did not explode," Tjahjono told Xinhua.
He said most pieces of the debris are in small parts and not scattered far away.
