Pompeo warns Russia against 2020 interference

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has warned Russia against interference in the 2020 US presidential elections. He also said that US wants to avoid war with Iran as tensions rise between the two countries.

Sochi:US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says that he has warned the Russian Foreign Minister against interference in the next American presidential election.

Pompeo said on Tuesday at a news conference after three hours of talks with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that, "Interference in American elections is unacceptable and if the Russians were engaged in that in 2020 it would put our relationship in an even worse place than it has been."

Pompeo told reporters, "We'll continue to do the things we need to do to protect our elections in 2020. And I don't think he (Lavrov) could be mistaken about America finding that the Russian interference is unacceptable in 2020 election."

Pompeo also said that the United States wants to avoid war with Iran as tensions rise between the two countries.

He said, "We fundamentally don't seek a war with Iran."
