Pakistani doctor held for infecting 90 with HIV

A doctor has been arrested by Pakistan police from Larkana city for allegedly infecting 90 people including 65 children with HIV. The doctor is also suffering from HIV.

Hyderabad:In a shocking incident, a doctor was arrested by Pakistan police from Larkana for allegedly infecting 90 people including 65 children with HIV using a contaminated syringe.

"We have arrested a doctor after receiving complaints from the health authorities," AFP reported quoting local police chief Kamran Nawaz.

Media reports say the doctor is also suffering from HIV.

Authorities carried out health check ups in and out of the Larkana city after 18 children from the town tested positive for the HIV virus that causes AIDS.

Later, they found dozen more people are also infected with the fatal virus.

"More than 90 people have tested HIV positive and the number of children is around 65," AFP reported quoting a district health official Dr Abdul Rehaman.

Sindh province health minister Azra Pechuho confirmed the arrest of the doctor.

The doctor was later produced before the court and sent on a three-day remand for further interrogation, Dawn reported.
