NZ shooting: Shooter identified as personal trainer

The Australian, who live-streamed the mass shooting at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand has been identified as a personal trainer. The 28-year-old claims himself to be a regular white man.

Hyderabad: The man, who live-streamed the mass shooting at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealandon Friday, has been identified as an Australian citizen.

The 28-year-old is a personal trainer and claims himself to be a regular white man, media reported.

Screen grabs from a video posted online showed the face of an alleged attacker. Footage from inside the car he was driving also showed a number of automatic weapons used during the attack.

At least 49 people were killed in the attacks after gunmen opened fire indiscriminately at the two mosques during afternoon prayers on Friday.

The shootings occurred at the Masjid al Noor mosque on Deans Avenue and Linwood Masjid in Linwood at about 1:45 pm (local time).

One man, who has claimed responsibility for the shootings, left a 74-page anti-immigrant manifesto in which he explained who he was and his reasoning for his actions.

Police have warned people to avoid mosques anywhere in New Zealand. People in Christchurch are asked to generally be off road and schools are on lockdown there.
