Surabaya: Earlier there was a barter system which described the ways to balance the marketing field, but for the first time Indonesia has revived the same old system differently.
Ages ago the barter system leads to the foundation of money but this time currency became the foundation stone of the barter system.
We have heard about different ways to control the pollution but Indonesia has figured out another very unique but novel way to control the pollution.
Used plastic bottles act as a new currency in Indonesia. Standing on the second position after China in the field of pollution it is now encouraging its citizens to recycle waste by giving a free bus ride in exchange for used plastic bottles.
Started in April this scheme allowed the people to pay the fee of their bus ride with plastic bottles.
Indonesia's Surabaya is the first city to implement this scheme.
A two-hour bus ticket costs 10 plastic cups or up to five plastic bottles, depending on their size, which the city hopes will help it meet an ambitious target of becoming free of plastic waste by 2020.
Balancing Act: One bus ride can collect 250 kg of plastic bottles a day, about 7.5 tonnes a month According to the report, one bus ride can collect about 250 kg of plastic bottles a day, about 7.5 tonnes in a month.
After collecting them they are sent to the recycling companies through auctioning. And the money earned from it is used for bus operations and also for the green spaces in the city.
Being the world's largest contributors of plastic waste, Indonesia through this scheme is trying to increase public awareness towards the environment.
