Indian national held in Malaysia over terror group links

The 24-year-old  Punjab resident was arrested for his alleged role as a facilitator for members of the Babbar Khalsa International(BKI) terror group. BKI was instrumental in the Kanishka bombings and the Narita International Airport bombing.

Kuala Lumpur: An Indian national Taranbir Singh was arrested by Malaysian police under the Immigration Act for illegally entering their territory.

The 24-year-old Punjab resident was arrested for his alleged role as a facilitator for members of the Babbar Khalsa terror group, who entered Malaysia in November 2018 and June 2019.

During interrogation, he admitted that a member of the BKI terror group, Kulwinderjit Singh is his uncle and at present he is in Cambodia. However, Furthermore he said he is no more in contact with him.

Kulwinderjit alias Khanpuriya has many cases registered against him and he was also allegedly involved in bomb blasts in New Delhi in 1995 and two blasts in Rajasthan in 1995 and 1996 respectively.

In 2016 Delhi Police claimed that Kulwinderjit, along with his aide Balwinder Singh, were planning to carry out terror attacks in Delhi.

A special court had acquitted him for not having evidence to substantiate the allegations against him.

BKI was instrumental in the Kanishka bombings and the Narita International Airport bombing. The group has agenda of Khalistan, a separate homeland for Sikhs.

Earlier, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Amarinder Singh had accused the BKI terrorists of hiding in Canada and had handed over a list of their names to the Canadian Prime Minister on his visit to India in February 2018.
