Divorce cases soar in China, courtesy quarantine!

Register offices witnessed an increase in divorce applications with one centre receiving over 300 pleas since February 24, Mail Today reported quoting Lu Shijun, manager of a marriage registry in Dazhou, Sichuan Province of south-western China.

Hyderabad: Spending more time with better halves is backfiring in China as the number of divorce cases in the country are on the rise ever since people are advised for quarantine following outbreak of COVID-19.

According to media reports, Beijing reported a sharp rise in divorce cases as couple are 'forced to spend much time together at home' during the quarantine.

Register offices witnessed an increase in divorce applications with one centre receiving over 300 pleas since February 24, Mail Today reported quoting Lu Shijun, manager of a marriage registry in Dazhou, Sichuan Province of south-western China.

Similarly, marriage registration offices in north-western China's Shaanxi Province also registered a spike in divorce appointments since re-opening on March 1.

"Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, young people are getting lots of time to spend together at home. However, they tend to land in a fight due to differences between them resulting in divorce," Lu said.

Notably, Chinese authorities have asked its citizens to self-isolate them for a month to curb the spread of coronavirus.

So far the virus has claimed over 3,200 lives and over 80,000 tested positive in China.
