Congratulatory messages pour in for Modi on election win

World leaders congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the landslide victory that the BJP-led NDA has secured in the general elections. Most of them have expressed hope to work with the Modi government.

Hyderabad: Congratulatory messages started pouring in from across the world for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the vote counting trends started indicatiing clear majority for the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent Modi congratulatory message through telegram. He wrote: "with the convincing victory of the BJP at the general parliamentary elections."

Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, also congratulated Modi, saying: "will continue to strengthen our friendship between India and Israel".

In a similar message, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani wrote on his official Twitter handle: "Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a strong mandate from the people of India. The government & the people of Afghanistan look forward to expanding cooperation between our two democracies".

Leaders from neighbouring countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka also sent their best wishes to Modi on the occasion, with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe writing on the micro blogging site: "Congratulations to #NarendraModi on a magnificent victory! We look forward to working closely with you."

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also sent a congratulatory message to Modi for the victory in the elections, wishing peace, happiness and prosperity for the people of India.

Similarly, Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc has written to Modi, congratulating him for the victory and said he was looking forward to work with him.

Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck also congratulated the Prime Minister for the election win.
