Beijing:In the latest row between China and the US, Beijing appears to be turning up the heat on foreign journalists working for American news agencies, CNN reports.

Both sides have targetted each other's media outlets, reports say.

During a routine renewal of press credentials of US journalists in China - they were given a letter which said their applications were being processed. Besides, they were told to produce their expired press cards, which are normally valid for a year, as evidence of their identity, the report added.

Those media persons who were issued new Chinese visas were valid for only two months as their visas are tied to their ID cards.

Putting a question mark on media work, Chinese authorities made it clear that the temporary press credentials can be revoked anytime, according to the report.

However, the new restrictions are reciprocal measures to Trump administration's treatment of Chinese journalists in the US.
