Search operations are underway in Shenzhen early on Saturday morning for one missing person, according to one source within the city's emergency management bureau.

Local media reported that a rainstorm in Shenzhen on Thursday evening triggered floods that washed away people working to dredge the river in the districts of Luohu and Futian.

Luohu district saw an average rainfall of 65 millimetres in three hours, according to the Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau.

A Luohu district government official said in one section of the river, the water level had leapt from one metre to four metres almost instantly, Xinhua reported.
