Beijing: China says diplomatic talks are ongoing with India over a border dispute after it says India "seriously violated the consensus" and "carried out provocative attacks on Chinese personnel".

"What is shocking is that on June 15, the Indian troops seriously violated the consensus of the two sides, crossed the border illegally twice and carried out provocative attacks on Chinese personnel, resulting in serious physical conflicts between the two border forces," said Zhao Lijian, a foreign ministry spokesperson, during a regular press conference in Beijing on Tuesday when asked if gunfire had been exchanged.

Zhao said he was not aware of the situation said India's actions on the border were provocative.

"China has lodged strong protests and solemn complaints with the Indian side, and once again solemnly demanded that the Indian side strictly restrain the frontline troops in accordance with the relevant spirit, do not cross border, do not take provocative acts, do not take any unilateral actions that will complicate the border situation."
