Azerbaijan says it struck Armenian military targets

The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry claimed that they prevented an attack by the Armenian Armed Forces on Hadrut province and Jabrayil district whereas Armenian authorities have denied these claims.

Baku:The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry said they carried out airstrikes against Armenian military targets on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

It came after Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a Russia-brokered cease-fire in Nagorno-Karabakh starting Saturday.

However, both immediately accused each other of derailing the deal intended to end the worst outbreak of hostilities in the separatist region in more than a quarter-century.

The footage released by the Defence Ministry shows the attack on targets alleged to be Armenian forces.

The Azerbaijani Defence Ministry also issued a statement that claimed they prevented an attack by the Armenian Armed Forces on Hadrut province and Jabrayil district.

Azerbaijani authorities also said the city of Ganja was shelled during the night causing fatalities among the civil population.

Armenian authorities have denied these claims.

According to the Armenian Ministry of Defence, Azerbaijan continued airstrikes on Stepanakert, Gadrut, and Martuni.

Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to the cease-fire starting at noon Saturday following two weeks of heavy fighting.
