Australian wildfires ease, but likely to worsen on Tuesday

Around 1,300 firefighters were battling fires across New South Wales with the most intense in the northeast of the state. So far three people have died and dozens more have been injured, over 150 homes have been destroyed and several people remain unaccounted for.

The country's Prime Minister Scott Morrison and state officials visited communities in Australia's most populous state of New South Wales to support those affected by the fires.

"We're not out of this yet," Morrison warned with conditions forecast to deteriorate on Tuesday.

Around 1,300 firefighters were battling fires across New South Wales with the most intense in the northeast of the state, Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said.

In Queensland, 51 wildfires were still raging on Sunday.

The wildfires destroyed homes, sheds, and cars, with the worst fire to the north of the city of Rockhampton.
