Port Moresby: A powerful earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter Scale jolted Papua New Guinea early Tuesday morning. There were, however, no serious damages or loss of lives.
The quake originated at a depth of 127 km, on the country's eastern side and was felt in capital Port Moresby nearly 250 km away.

Though 7.2 is a massive quake, it did not cause tsunami or any other serious damage because it was very deep. People felt the quake, things shook but that was that.
There are regular earthquakes in Papua New Guinea. Last year February a massive quake of 7.5 magnitude caused landslides and buried homes apart from killing more than a hundred people.
