12 feared dead in arson attack at Japan studio

The police and first responders said a man has been taken into custody after what appeared to be an accelerant, possibly gasoline, was sprayed at the site.

Kyoto:At least 12 people are presumed dead and several others are missing in an arson attack at a famous animation studio here on Thursday.

According to reports, a man burst into the Kyoto Animation building and started the fire early in the morning, leaving dozens injured, some critically, Japanese authorities said.

The fire broke out after the suspect spread an unidentified liquid that set off the blaze, Kyoto police and fire department officials said.

The suspect was also injured and taken to a hospital, officials said. Police are questioning the man on suspicion of arson.

Though the blazing fire was extinguished hours later, firefighters are still searching for anyone left behind.
