Washington: President Donald Trump on Monday said that he could win the war in Afghanistan but he doesn't want to kill millions of people and wipe Afghanistan off from the earth.
"I could win that war in a week, but I don't want to kill millions of people," Trump said, adding, "If I wanted to win that war, Afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the earth. It would be over in literally, in 10 days," he added.
However, Trump wants Pakistan to help Washington to obtain a deal with Taliban which will allow them to end America's longest war.
Although US-Pak's testy relationship may be improving, Trump says Pakistan can use its influence with the Taliban to help the US extricate from Afghanistan.
Last year Trump had announced the withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan.
US seeks Pak help to resolve Afghanistan crisis Pakistan, which is facing economic crisis aims to reconstruct its relationship with Washington with the expectation that this relation will allow them to secure more investments, trade and also restoration of American aid that Trump had cut off.
Khan said he has never believed that there was a military solution to the war. He said that he thinks the US and the Taliban are closer to a peace deal than ever before. Monday's meeting was meant to smooth tensions and address complex problems facing both nations.
Afghanistan is marred by insurgency for two decades. In a bid to attain peace in the war-ravaged nation, US-led Afghanistan 'peace process' was initiated. Pakistan has been the latest nation to be inducted into Afghanistan 'peace process'.
Trump also said that Pakistan could help play a role in stabilising Afghanistan after US pullout and suggested he could restore hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to Pakistan "depending on what we work out."
