Rainfall triggers flooding in southeastern Brazil

Heavy rains triggered floods over the weekend in the city of Vitória in southeastern Brazil. Max Filho, the mayor of Vila Velha, a city in the metropolitan area of Vitória, announced he will declare state of emergency due to disruption in many public services, including one city hospital.

Vitoria:Heavy rains triggered floods over the weekend in the city of Vitória in southeastern Brazil.

City officials said that in 24 hours the area saw more than 240 millimeters of rainfall, more than double of what was expected for the whole month of May.

The rains that affected Espirito Santo state and other regions of the country, fell Friday night and Saturday.

Flooded roads disrupted transportation in the area with forced road closures. Local media showed cars almost completely submerged by the water and shops and houses also affected.
