PM Modi reaches Houston ahead of 'Howdy Modi'

Howdy Modi event at the massive NRG stadium will see 50,000 enthusiastic Indian diaspora members greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he takes the stage along with US President Donald Trump joining him in a rare gesture.

Houston: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reached Houston where he is scheduled to address 50,000 Indian diaspora at mega 'Howdy Modi' event.

Sunday's mega event at the massive NRG stadium will see enthusiastic Indian diaspora members greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he takes the stage along with US President Donald Trump joining him in a rare gesture.

PM Modi was received by Director, Trade and International Affairs, Christopher Olson and other officials. Indian Ambassador to US Harsh Vardhan Shringla and US Ambassador to India Ken Juster were also presented for his welcome.

PM Modi is scheduled to have a round table meeting with the CEOs of oil sector companies on the first day of his arrival in the US.

The event at the NRG Stadium will be followed by a luncheon meeting with elected officials and a community reception at the same venue.

PM Modi will leave for New York the same day. On September 23, he will attend the UN Secretary-General's Climate Action Summit at the UN building.

He has a packed schedule during his week-long visit to the US to attend the UNGA which includes multi-lateral engagements, interaction with the business community, bilateral meetings as also address to the Indian diaspora.

The 'Howdy Modi' event at the NRG Football Stadium, one of the largest in the US, has been organized by the Texas India Forum (TIF), a non-profit organization.

More than 1,000 Gujaratis from Houston have prepared for a mega 'dandiya', a traditional Gujarati dance, to welcome the Prime Minister for the event.
