Washington: About 50 years ago, the United States launched a spacecraft from the John F Kennedy Space Center aiming to land humans on the lunar surface.
Apollo 11 was launched on July 16, carrying 3 crew members: Mission Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin E. Aldrin Jr.
The spacecraft landed on July 20, later Neil Armstrong emerged from the spacecraft stowed the surface television camera that recorded mankind's first step on the moon. The footage shows the achievement of human invention. Armstrong collected the lunar surface material. Aldrin, later descended onto the lunar surface.
After 2.5 hrs descending to the surface, they planned to reenter the spacecraft. Astronauts collected 22 kgs of material and two main types of rocks, basalts and breccias that were found at the landing site of Apollo 11.
