Coconino County: Hundreds of firefighters were engaged in a tough battle to contain the wildfire in Arizona to keep the blaze away from the residential area.

About two dozen homes were evacuated and on the other hand, the residents of another 5,000 homes were told to be prepared to flee.

Firefighters were expecting that the weather might bring some relief. As the forecaster had warned of potential flooding if enough rain falls on mountain slopes.

A top federal team took up the responsibility to take care of the blaze on Monday. They also brought resources to handle the blaze.

According to the report, the fire that began on Sunday had engulfed about 2.8 square miles of the mountain pass which was the prime spot of recreation.

Meanwhile, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey declared a state of emergency as a wildfire burned in northern Arizona. He also said that an amount of $200,000 from the state's general fund will be provided to the Arizona Division of Emergency Management.

Officials on Tuesday said that the fire had burned more intensely because of the gusty winds that quickly change the fire's direction and posed a challenge to firefighters.
