Watch: Marking 76th anniversary of failed attempt against Hitler

The German Nazi leader Adolf Hitler survived a briefcase bomb on July 20, 1944, during a meeting at his headquarters in East Prussia. Hitler escaped the full force of the blast when someone moved the briefcase next to a table leg, deflecting much of the explosive force. The plot crumbled when news spread that Hitler had survived. The conspirators, led by Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, were executed within hours. The conspirators were viewed as traitors in Germany for many years after the end of World War Two, but in recent years they have been recognised for their efforts to resist the Nazi regime.
