Chennai (Tamil Nadu): Tamil actor Mansoor Ali Khan apologized for his controversial speech about actor Trisha Krishnan on Friday. Mansoor Ali Khan expressed regret, albeit a tad less sincerely, after being threatened with legal action. The Leo actor regretted his words as he asked for forgiveness in a statement that was shared on social media.

"My co-actress Trisha, Please forgive me! May God bless the fortune for me to bless your Mangalyam (marital necklace, mangalsutra) as it goes around in the coconut tray in the auspicious marital ritual! Amen. ---Mansoor Ali Khan," a tweet by trade analyst Ramesh Bala citing the Tamil actor read. This comes after police have been instructed by the National Commission for Women to file a case against Mansoor Ali Khan for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Trisha. As per the commission's directive, the Thousand Lights All-Women Police have charged Mansoor under Sections 354 A and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, which refer to sexual harassment and actions intended to outrage the modesty of a woman, respectively.

Earlier, Khushbu Sundar, an actor, BJP MP, and member of the National Commission for Women, had pledged to take action against Mansoor. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, "As a member of NCW, I have already raised the matter of Mansoor Ali Khan with my seniors and will be taking appropriate action. Nobody can get away with such offensive thoughts."

In response to this, Mansoor held a press conference on Tuesday, where he remained steadfast and refused to apologize for his statement. He stated, "I did not mean it personally. If there is a rape or murder scene in a film, is it real? Does it imply actual rape? What does a murder in a film signify? Does it mean they are really killing someone? Why should I apologize? I did not say anything wrong. I hold all actresses in high regard."

However, the legal consequences appear to have softened Mansoor, who has now offered an apology in Tamil. For the unversed, Mansoor courted controversy after expressing his disappointment about not having a bedroom scene with Trisha in Leo during the Kashmir shoot. Many people, including members of the Tamil film industry, such as Leo director Lokesh Kanagaraj, Chiranjeevi, Nithiin, and Chinmayi Sripada and others, criticized the actor for his offensive remarks.
