Family Star teaser out: Vijay Deverakonda redefines masculinity in first film with Mrunal Thakur

Vijay Deverakonda unveiled the teaser of his upcoming film Family Star on Thursday. The film stars Mrunal Thakur opposite Vijay and questions gender norms in the society.

Hyderabad: Vijay Deverakonda, who has made a name for himself as one of the most in-demand performers in Telugu cinema, shared the teaser of his upcoming flick Family Star on Thursday. The film helmed by Parasuram marks his second collaboration with the director after Geetha Govindam and his first with actor Mrunal Thakur. The film set to release on Pongal 2024 features Vijay and Mrunal Thakur in the lead.

The handsome hunk shared the teaser on his official Instagram handle with the caption: "In every family - there is A Hero! This one is for all of you ❤️Sankranti 2024 #FamilyStar" The film, which is slated to be an action-drama with a dash of comedy, is set to be another feather in the cap for Vijay Deverakonda.

In the Family Star teaser, a gangster (played by Ajay Ghosh) tells Vijay that cutting onions and getting the kids ready for school are not signs of manliness as Vijay may be seen carrying out these activities. He carried out the normal house chores with no shame, challenging societal norms of gender roles.

The comments don't bother Vijay, who then uses a bent rod to beat one of the gang members and asks if bending an iron rod is masculine enough. At the end of the video, we also happen to catch a glimpse of the female lead Mrunal Thakur, who calls Vijay from behind, suggesting a potential love story between the two stars.

The title teaser clearly depicts Vijay Deverakonda as a massy and cool family man, which appears to set the premise of the story, but the elevation of the peak mass moments is undoubtedly due to how high the notes hit, the credit of which goes to music director Gopi Sunder. The movie, bankrolled by Raju-Shirish, has a tremendously talented technical team, including KU Mohanan, who is in charge of the cinematography, and Marthand K Venkatesh, who is in charge of the editing.
